Making a Plan for Your Newborn’s Visitors

Having a baby is a very exciting time, not only for you but for your friends and family as well. Sometimes, the number of people who want to meet your new child can be overwhelming. Because of this, it’s important to have a plan for setting boundaries around your newborn’s visitors.

Newborns bring so much joy, but it can also be a time of physical, mental, and emotional stress and exhaustion. The baby’s caregivers are ultimately the ones who need to decide what kind of visiting process is best for them. If you are the parent who has just given birth, it’s important to know what you need to feel healthy, safe, and comfortable. Then you can set boundaries appropriately regarding visiting hours, length of visits, and any concerns about germs or illness.

Once you have identified what works for your family, it’s important to communicate these boundaries clearly, consistently, and honestly. It’s also important to remember that you may need to change your boundaries as time goes on, and that’s perfectly fine. This should be a wonderful time for you, and setting rules for all the well-intentioned people who want to meet your baby can help keep it as low-stress as possible.
