What is Tongue Tie? Common Indications & Concerns

What is tongue tie? Doctors Emily Hahn and Maithilee Menezes from St. Louis Children’s Hospital provide answers and address common indicators and concerns. There are key factors in determining if a child has tongue tie. For example, doctors consider the mother’s level of breastfeeding discomfort, problems feeding and oral hygiene issues in older children. There is no literature to support sleep apnea as a result of tongue/lip tie in babies and opinions are mixed on whether it causes speech challenges.

Dr. Emily Hahn is a board certified pediatric dentist at St. Louis Children’s Hospital. Dr. Hahn attended Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI for dental school. She completed her pediatric dental residency in Yakima, WA. She is the mommy to one spirited and jolly little guy.

Dr. Maithilee Menezes is an ENT-otolaryngologist. She has been in practice for over 10 years. Dr. Menezes received her medical degree from University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine.
