Why Outdoor Time Is So Important for Children

Is your child getting enough outdoor time? Interaction with nature is important for people of all ages, so you and your child may both benefit from spending time together outside. Studies show that interacting with nature can improve mood, cognitive function, & empathy, and can also be part of a larger approach to addressing depression. Some pediatricians have even started to literally prescribe time outside! Unfortunately, safe access to nature is not equal for all children. Children who already live in marginalized communities are less likely to have access to a safe outdoor space. St. Louis has been making strides in closing the gap in equity with the help of non-profit organizations, including The Nature Conservancy and Seed St. Louis. Getting closer to nature is a great way for us all to get away from our hectic, digital lifestyles.
